It attempts to identify the degree of recognition of data reuse value and understand how e-science has impacted a large-scale scholarship. By analyzing a list of 1,211 publications that cite GEO data to support their independent studies, it discovers that free data can support a wealth of high-quality investigations, that the rate of open data use keeps growing over the years, and that scholars in different countries show different rates of complying with data-sharing policies.

Learning from Linked Open Data Usage: Patterns & Metrics

Although the cloud of Linked Open Data has been growing continuously for several years, little is known about the particular features of linked data usage. Motivating why it is important to understand the usage of Linked Data, we describe typical linked data usage scenarios and contrast the so derived requirement with conventional server access analysis. Then, we report on usage patterns found ...

Across Bacterial Phyla, Distantly-Related Genomes with Similar Genomic GC Content Have Similar Patterns of Amino Acid Usage

The GC content of bacterial genomes ranges from 16% to 75% and wide ranges of genomic GC content are observed within many bacterial phyla, including both gram negative and gram positive phyla. Thus, divergent genomic GC content has evolved repeatedly in widely separated bacterial taxa. Since genomic GC content influences codon usage, we examined codon usage patterns and predicted protein amino ...

Functional role of bacteriophage transfer RNAs: codon usage analysis of genomic sequences stored in the GENBANK/EMBL/DDBJ databases

Complete genomic sequence data are stored in the public GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ databases so that any investigator can make use of the data. This report describes a comparative analysis of codon usage that is impossible without such a public and open data system. A limited number of bacteriophages harbor their own transfer RNAs. Based on a comparison between T4 phage-encoded tRNA species and the rela...

Limitation of Laryngeal Mask Airway Usage in Open-Neck Procedure

I read the manuscript entitled “Case Report of An Open Neck Procedure Complication Associated with Laryngeal Mask Airway Use” by Subramaniam T et al. This is a valuable manuscript describing iatrogenic complications during level-2 cervical lymph node biopsy, in which the airway is managed with laryngeal mask airway (LMA). During the procedure, the surgeon realized that the mass was actually the...
